Kumbaya, for fuck’s sake.

It’s just science.

May 13, 2017

I need to write about so many things: Carrying the Paul Ryan sign for the day on Tuesday, and the reactions it provoked; how incredibly specifically informed people are right now, how much they want to express their incredulity over the brazenness of the corruption and how long it’s taking to prosecute. Then there’s the two “get a load of her” guys on the subway uptown today — I’m not even playing anymore.

Kumbaya, the president fired James Comey because he’s guilty as shit, kumbaya

Kumbaya, today he met with the Russians at the White House and didn’t allow any press, kumbaya

Kumbaya, his attorney general lied about Russia under oath, kumbaya…

My deal is, if you look away, I will stop singing. But if you try to stare me down, I am just going to get louder and smile wider. I say to a young woman who’s smiling supportively from a nearby seat, “This song goes on and on. I have verses until 125th Street.”

He said the Constitution is bad, kumbaya

He doesn’t believe in a free press, kumbaya

He wants to restrict your right to protest, kumbaya

This thing is devolving into fascism pretty quickly, kumbaya

He’s a coward, a tyrant, a draft-dodging cheat

He contradicts himself every day

Everybody around him is crooked, rich, and/or racist

He’s making money on real estate and auctioning visas to rich Chinese people

He can’t keep his own lies straight

Our allies hate us now

The whole world thinks this is a disaster

I’ve been doing this for four months now

People are angry and sick of this shit

We will fight him every single day

Kumbaya

I haven’t devoted time to writing about this, so I’m behind –so many encounters to record, so many thoughts on those encounters, so much love for the people of my city. So many verses of this song to sing. Four months worth of verses. I didn’t think I’d be singing for so long, but I’m not quitting now, not when we’re so close to getting him out. I have verses to 125th Street, and beyond.

Even your HMO won’t deny this!
